Best home filter: iSpring WGB32B
- Price: $$$$.
- Micron: 5
- Flow rate: 15 gpm
- Filter capacity: 100k gallons
- Annual fee: $$.
The iSpring WGB32B 3-Stage is one of the most popular complete household filters on the market and is best suited for excess chlorine in city water.
Check the iSpring FCRC25B filter cartridge for lead, iron and manganese (in well water). The iSpring FM25B is available for iron and manganese.
When you use the system for the first time, you will immediately notice that not only does your water taste much better, but your underwear is also softer, just like your hair. Your skin will look less dry after showering, especially if you are dealing with many hardness factors.
Tests carried out by independent laboratories (NSF/ANSI standards 42 and 53) have shown that the iSpring WGB32B filter removes 95 to 98% of precipitation, such as sand and rust, chlorine and chloramines, as well as many other contaminants that make your water look, taste and smell unpleasant.
Eliminating harmful organic chemicals such as pesticides and herbicides? Tested!
In terms of water pressure and consumption, the supply of 15 gallons per minute should be absolutely sufficient for a household of 4 to 6 people.
In terms of filtration capacity, a sediment filter (first stage), a charcoal filter (second stage) and an additional charcoal post filter (third stage) have a capacity of 100,000 gallons, or about 1 year for a family of 3 or up to 6 months for a family of 6 people.
Replaceable filters are affordable, saving money in the long run. Does that sound interesting to you? Discover the iSpring WGB32B water filtration system for your entire home!
If you are worried about the installation, you can be sure that the system does not need to be installed by a professional if you have some basic plumbing skills and the right tools. All you have to do is connect the system to the main water line of your house.
The individual push buttons make changing filters much easier.
Not to mention: The iSpring customer support is reliable and responsive. If you have a problem, for example a defective part, the team will send you a replacement part as soon as possible.
One client described filter replacement as nervous exhaustion, which is understandable because the patterns tend to move when they try to reattach the body. Moreover, the housings and filters are quite heavy, which makes it difficult for everyone, especially when you are alone.
Our stop: Our system number 1
The iSpring WGB32B multifunctional water filter is ideal for cases of severe urban water pollution. It provides sufficient filtered water for larger households and is supplied at an affordable price. The opinions of customers reflect our own thoughts: The best water filter in the whole house!
2. Keeper HMF3SDGFEC 3 steps – No. 1 Water filter for well water in the house
The best complete filter for spring water: Home Champion HMF3SDGFEC
- Price: $$$$.
- Micron: 1
- Flow rate: 15 gpm
- Filter capacity: 95k gallon
- Annual fee: $$$$.
Home Master is known for the production of excellent reverse osmosis filtration systems, and when we look at the full range of water filters in the house, the brand remains true to itself.
It is equipped with 2 and 3-stage filter systems that ensure extremely clean water. The filters also have a high flow rate, which means you can use multiple taps, showers, etc. at the same time and do not need maintenance, saving money, time and inconvenience.
What we like about the whole series is that you can easily switch to cheaper replacement filters sold by third parties. This gives you access to a wide range of models of different qualities.
Home Master HMF3SDGFEC 3-Stage is in our opinion the best water filtration system for the whole house for well water , which contains large amounts of iron, manganese and sulphur. Home Master does not recommend this system for chlorinated water, which excludes most city water.
If you want to know more about two-storey home automation systems: In a nutshell, one of them was intended for city water with a high chlorine content and the other for city water with a high concentration of chloramines.
The standard filters supplied with the 3-stage HMF3SDGFEC remove lead, mercury and manganese as well as other heavy metals. You also don’t have to worry about the sediment and the many chemical impurities. In the case of well water, in particular, filters remove pesticides and herbicides. Basically, any particle larger than 1 micron is removed – compare this to 5 microns for the iSpring WGB32B above.
In addition, the filter system comes with a 2-year warranty and A+ customer support. Our team of experts will be happy to answer all your questions and help you set up a tailor-made system if you need special water filtration.
That’s what we don’t like:
- 1. If you do not choose a third party model, replacement filters are not cheap.
- 2. On the one hand, it is good that the filters have a long service life. On the other hand, because of their size, they cannot be installed in every house.
Our stop: Our #1 well water system
The Home Master HMF3SDGFEC water filter for domestic use is an excellent choice for those dealing with spring water contaminated with heavy metals and agricultural chemicals. The level of filtration is unrivalled in this price segment and is certainly one of the best source water filtration systems. It is simply not the best choice for people on a limited budget.
3. SpringWell 4-stage water filtering systems for the whole house
SpringWell CF1 Water filter for the whole house
- Price: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
- Micron: 5
- Flow rate: 9 gpm
- Filter capacity : 1M gallon
- Annual fee: $.
SpringWell’s complete range of domestic water filters includes 3 systems – CF1, CF4 and CF+. They are intended for use in the municipal water supply with chlorine or in the municipal water supply with chloramines.
All three SpringWell systems provide filtered water throughout the house, which will taste and smell much better from the start. What is the difference between the models? This is their size and therefore the maximum amount of water that can be filtered at any given time:
- The CF1 household water filter delivers up to 9 gallons per minute.
- The CF4 All-Home Water Filter delivers up to 12 litres per minute.
- The CF+ Whole House Water Filter delivers up to 17 gallons per minute.
As you can see, water flow and pressure are high thanks to the large, robust tanks with numerous filter media. Another advantage is that the filter medium only needs to be replaced after filtering one million litres of water (approximately every 6 to 10 years). So you can invest your time and money in something more enjoyable. Only the 5-micron pre-filtration phase makes it possible to retain deposits and dirt every 6 to 9 months.
With the exception of chlorine and chloramine (up to 96%), KDF-55 activated carbon (phase 2) + coconut shell (phase 3) removes certain heavy metals, organic pollutants such as VOCs, pesticides and herbicides, sulphur and other impurities that cause unpleasant tastes and odours.
Finally, the SpringWell filtration system is not more difficult to install than other water filters throughout the house (installation kit included). It only takes a few more steps. You also get free shipping, a lifetime warranty and a risk-free money back guarantee for the first six months of use.
There are two minor drawbacks we wanted to mention:
- The carbonated medium in the large tank must be absorbed in the water at least two days before installation.
- After installation, it may take some time to wash out all the carbon fibres.
Water filters all over the house don’t come cheap. But customer satisfaction is also high thanks to the excellent support the company offers. And don’t forget that all systems have a 6-month satisfaction guarantee. Our verdict: 4.5 out of 5 stars!
4. 3-stage express water filter for city wells or water mains
Express water filtering system with 3 filter levels
- Price: $$$.
- Micron: 5
- Flow rate: 7-15 gpm
- Filter capacity: –
- Annual fee: $$$$.
All these Express water filters are high quality and look damn good – no reason to hide them in a remote corner of your basement.
It is used by many people for the treatment of spring water and provides high quality (drinking) water that not only protects your household appliances and extends their life, but also has the smell and taste of super fresh water.
The system consists of a sediment filter (first stage), a granular active carbon filter (second stage) and a carbon filter (third stage) for the removal of dirt, chlorine, organic chemicals, rust, limescale, volatile organic compounds and other contaminants.
Other advantages :
- Chlorine-free water for your family, garden and pets
- Chlorine-free showers for healthy skin and healthy hair
- the filters are maintenance free, saving you time and money
- Decompression button for easy cartridge replacement
On the note: Express Water is another manufacturer known for its robust reverse osmosis systems. Curiously, this domestic water filter has exactly the same carbon filters and granular filters as those normally found in a reverse osmosis system.
It turns out that the water inlet and outlet openings are too free. If you want to avoid drops, make sure you use enough tape. And as usual, we’re missing the NSF certification.
Compared to its competitors, all of Express Water’s sludge and carbon filters are relatively new on the market. However, the customers are very satisfied with the quality and effectiveness of the cleaning. Does the system recommend our readers? Absolutely!
5. 3M Aqua-Pure AP903 Complete water filtration system for domestic use (well water compatible)
3M Aqua-Pure AP903 Water filtering system (suitable for spring water)
- Price: $$$.
- Micron: 5
- Flow rate: 20 gpm
- Filter capacity: 100k gallons
- Annual fee: $$.
Compared to the other water filters on this page, the 3M Aqua-Pure AP903 recessed model can handle exceptionally high volumes of water per minute (20 gpm), which is ideal for large multi-bathroom homes.
It is equipped with a 5-micron active carbon filter that reduces precipitation, dirt, rust, chlorine and chemicals. This protects your equipment and plumbing system and eliminates unpleasant tastes and odours.
Another obvious advantage is the intelligent design, which makes it easy to change the filter cartridge. The exchange takes no longer than 5 minutes – no tools are required! The filter capacity is quite normal: 100,000 gallons or up to one year.
Installation is simple and uncomplicated. However, you do want a few hours, especially if you want to add an extra pre-filter and bypass line + shut-off valves. By the way, the slim design makes it possible to carry out the installation on the water mains, even if space is limited.
Inappropriate? According to 3M, the AP903 filter can be used for water throughout the house, both for spring water and city water, which is a good thing, but the seller also recommends using a pre-filter system beforehand.
This prevents clogging and increases the life of the filter. Unfortunately, this also means additional costs that need to be covered.
The 3M AP903 All-Home filter is truly maintenance free and only needs to be replaced quickly once a year. Compared to other models, this is not the best household water filter. However, it is an ideal solution for people with reasonably clean water because it does not lose most of the small pollutants such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), heavy metals and pesticides.

6. Culligan WH-HD200-C Total Domestic Water Filtration System #RealBargain
Culligan WH-HD200-C: A very affordable water filter for the whole household
- Price: $.
- Micron: 5-50
- Flow rate: 3-10 gpm
- Filter capacity: 10k-24k gallon
- Annual fee: $.
In what follows, we will examine Culligan’s WH-HD200-C filtering system for the entire house. The main purpose of this system is to protect your sanitary and household appliances against precipitation and limescale. Harmful contaminants remain largely intact. However, it also improves the taste of your water.
Part of the reason we like this water purification in the house is that it’s super cheap. And also:
- 1. The transparent reservoir makes it possible to check the condition of the filter cartridge at a glance.
- 2. We have built in a bypass valve so you don’t have to shut off the entire water supply to the house when you replace the cartridges.
- 3. The WH-HD200-C is compatible with 5 different filters – activated carbon filter, precipitation filter, etc. – and can be used with any of the 5 filters. – with different capacities and casting sizes. Which option is best suited to your needs?
Inlet and outlet openings are subject to leakage, so use a large quantity of Teflon tape to create a permanent seal.
The second problem is the bypass valve, which can be difficult to turn and needs to be lubricated.
Our stop: Solid water filter
A filter life of 10,000 to 24,000 litres is not much water. However, the new cartridges are very affordable. And if you think the Culligan WH-HD200-C water filter is a real thing, there’s nothing to complain about.

Go directly to the reviews!
One fact is inevitable: Official reports show that the quality of (drinking) water in the United States is alarming. Day after day, most of us consume water contaminated with agricultural chemicals, traces of pharmaceuticals, heavy metals – lead, I believe – chlorine, fluorine.
Fortunately, more and more people seem to understand the problem and want to do something about it – and so do you, which is great! But before buying a water filtration solution from you, you should think about it:
Which water filter should I buy throughout the house? Check the water quality!
First of all, you should try to find out more about the quality of the water you receive. So you can buy a water filter in your home that is able to fight all the contaminants hidden in it.
Do you use well water or municipal water, also called city water? If your water comes from a well, do you have access to a water quality report? Otherwise, it is preferable to send the sample directly to an independent laboratory. In addition, you can purchase one of these well test kits, which will give you a rough idea of what to expect (more information about well water filtration, below):
Those of us who are lucky enough to get city water can go here or there and look for their distribution company. All reports from both databases are available for free!
Municipal tap water usually contains many disinfectant by-products, such as trigalomethane and haloacetic acid, which are associated with an increased risk of, for example, bladder cancer.
Moreover, most municipal water is fluoridated. Research has linked fluoride to tooth and bone damage and bone cancer. The bad news is that only a small number of water filters in your home will remove fluoride from your water.
In many cases, well water is contaminated with chemicals from agricultural wastewater. Fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, pathogens – the list goes on and on.
It is also possible that your water is contaminated with lead from old pipes. If you are worried about this, you should read our article explaining how best to remove lead from the water.
Water filter for the whole house type
More or less all water filters in the house can remove the basic dirt. These are deposits, chlorine and a number of chemicals that cause unpleasant odours and tastes. Specialised well water treatment filters also remove iron (rust) and other heavy metals.
But only reverse osmosis filtration technology can eliminate all bad things and make drinking and cooking water 100% safe. Your water quality report or a laboratory test will tell you if you need it.
Rare: RO whole house filtration systems can be very expensive. Another solution is to install a smaller unit under the sink and provide drinking water for a single tap, which is a useful addition to any conventional filtration system for the whole house.
How about installing a water softener? The water softener makes the water softer. It is not intended to remove dirt, chemicals or other substances from the scale.
Consumption characteristics of water filters + micron values
Please note that the filtration system for the entire house must provide sufficient filtered water, not only for the kitchen mixer, but also for the bathroom(s), dishwasher, washing machine and any other water-consuming appliance.
A sufficient flow rate is therefore necessary if you do not want to suffer from a drop in water pressure by opening several outlets. 10 to 15 gallons per minute is a standard for an entire household water filter. Anything below this figure may not be enough for large households.
On the note: The bathroom mixer consumes up to 1.5 gpm, the kitchen mixer up to 2.2 gpm. The maximum flow rate of shower water is normally less than 2.5 gallons per minute.
At the same time, you want your entire house filter to be effective. In this case, the yield is measured in micrometres. A micron is a thousandth of a millimeter. In general, a lower value in microns indicates a deeper filtration where more impurities are removed.
For example: The water filtering system in the house, which only removes sand, mud and rust, can have a value of 50 microns. This means that it captures all or most of the particles dissolved in water with a minimum size of 50 microns, which does not affect substances such as fluorine, lead, most chemicals and most pathogens such as bacteria.
The other micron values are 25, 10, 5 and 1, followed by the sub-micron level. A dilemma: The lower the nominal value in microns, the lower the outlet pressure and the water flow rate. That’s why reverse osmosis systems are rare throughout the house. Normal reverse osmosis membranes are designed for 0.0001 microns, which reduces the water flow to the drainage bed unless additional booster pumps are used.
Water filter for the whole house Cost
We’re all trying to save them. When it comes to water filters for the whole house, you should therefore not only consider the purchase price of the system, but also the service life and cost of the filter cartridge. More powerful water filters (measured in gallons) last longer.
If you want to estimate your water consumption, calculate 80 to 100 gallons per person per day.
Required filter surface for the whole house
A whole block is much larger than an average filter system. Do not underestimate the dimensions and make sure you have enough space for installation and maintenance.

In paragraph 1 we looked at the best water filters for the whole house. In the following, we will address some of the most frequently asked questions from our readers about this particular type of filter.
Water filtration throughout the house: How to filter the best spring water (for drinking)
Although this buying guide is only partly dedicated to checking well water filtering systems throughout the house, we would like to give you more information on how to properly treat well water with a well water filter for the whole house.
For filtration of all domestic and spring water
Water from a well is groundwater, which means it comes mainly from rain falling into the ground. This explains why spring water contains many pollutants. Some of these are natural contaminants, such as deposits, calcium, magnesium and selenium. Others are man-made pollutants, such as chemicals that enter the water cycle in the form of industrial and agricultural wastewater or wastewater.
Whether natural or man-made contaminants, both groups can pose serious health risks. The good news is that by the time you are supplied with municipal water, your community has already taken care of most of the dangerous bacteria, cysts, etc. found in the water supply. However, if you are dependent on a private well, this is simply not the case and it is your responsibility to ensure that your water is safe for your family.

A complete home filtration system for your well should combine a sediment filter for larger particles such as dirt and rust with a chlorination step for bacteria.
The extra activated carbon filter removes a lot of chlorine and organic impurities and neutralizes unpleasant tastes and odors. Would you like to know more about chlorine removal? Click here: best-osmosis-systems.com/how to remove chlorine from water /
The iron filter for water is a worthy modernisation that reduces the content of iron, iron (rust), manganese and sulphur. Would you like to know more? Click on: best-osmosis-systems.com/ Iron removal water filters
An additional step of salt resin water softener or a separate water softener is most suitable for regulating hard water minerals in severe cases.
Instead of the chlorine pathway, which can be a source of disinfection by-products, the UV filter pathway can also be selected. The UV filter destroys all pathogens in the water, including bacteria and viruses.
